Abstract
Introduces a procedure to objectify ideas of members of a training group about the competency of each trainee. Measures include rank ordering of each group member in terms of likelihood to refer to or to go to personally, egograms (J. Dusay) of the top, median, and lowest ranked persons, and reasons for assigning persons to these positions. A Competence Profile was constructed from the rankings and the skills specified. The profile is proposed as a working model to provide periodic evaluation of a trainee's readiness to stand for professional examination boards, and provides a basis for a prescription for raising competence. Data from the egograms and the specified skills are compared with those reported by other studies, of the overall qualities of the therapist associated with a positive outcome for the client.
