Nine physically abusive and nine seriously neglectful mothers participated in a 12-week TA/redecision group psychotherapy program to evaluate short-term effectiveness of this therapy model with such parents. Criteria considered in the evaluation of the program included MMPI change scores, attendance, completion of contracts, therapists' and social workers' evaluations of behavioral change, reports about abuse or neglect, return of children, and demonstration of increased coping skills. Significant changes were identified for each of the criteria. No differentiation of abusive as compared to neglectful mothers was evident for and of the criteria considered.
