Presents a structural and transactional model for relationship and premarital counseling. This model identifies three components held to be important in ongoing, affectional relationships: caring, closeness, and compatibility. These components are described and illustrated. Use of the model for diagnosing and treating dysfunction in any of the three components is discussed and illustrative examples are provided.
