Cure is considered in terms of Berne's statements about the achievement of autonomy and Maslow's motivation theory. Maslow's hierarchy of needs concepts are integrated with the TA concepts of structure, position, and sex hunger, and the suggestion is offered that these hungers may be ordered hierarchically. Cure is held to be attained when the “…patient can deal with his total gamut of hungers, none being threatened or frustrated.” Specific questions are provided, the answers to which are useful in evaluating the readiness of a patient to terminate therapy.
