Abstract
A treatment methodology for flying phobias, utilizing a combination of TA and behavioral principles and techniques is described. The etiology of the phobia is discussed in terms of early childhood experience, actual aircraft mishaps, early injunctions, and learned behaviors. Treatment involves evaluation, relaxation training, decontamination and redecision work, systematic desensitization, and stroking for reinforcement. A unique in vivo desensitization procedure utilizing a float-equipped airplane is discussed.
