Abstract
Three studies to assess the concurred validity of an experimental paper-and- pencil test to assess basic ego states were performed with teachers and undergraduates. In the first study, where this scale was used as pre-post-TA workshop basis, significant changes were obtained in the Parent and Adult scores. In the second study, scores on this test correlated significantly with various scales on Leary's Interpersonal Checklist. In the third study, scores on this test correlated significantly with other measures. The provisional validity and reliability obtained from these studies suggest the need for further replications together with other existing instruments.
Conclusion
On the basis of these three different studies, this simple paper-and-pencil test for ego states shows sufficient validity to warrant further studies and replications. Most relevant would be to correlate this test with the Daley and McCarley instruments. Such research is now in progress.
