In this article the author describes a test instrument designed to measure basic life position. The survey consists of an evaluation of 40 simple Likert statements, and can be completed in 10 or 15 minutes. The test meets rigorous psychometric standards of test reliability and validity. Interesting differences in life position levels were noted across age groupings. Possible reasons for these findings are dicussed. Teaching, clinical, and research uses of the instrument are indicated.
