“If It Weren't For You” (IWFY) is seen by the authors as the dynamics matrix for all games played by couples. Within this matrix are provided the kinds of protection needed to maintain the symbiotic contract. Clinical examples are discussed, treatment suggestions are given, and a sentence-completion format for identifying the elements of the matrix is provided.
