Abstract
Identification of potential locations constitutes a crucial aspect of park-and-ride facility planning and successful implementation. The present study prioritizes the planning criteria and identifies potential park-and-ride facility locations in Delhi, India. The survey instrument comprised a pairwise comparison between seven park-and-ride location planning criteria finalized for the present study. A pen-and-paper personal interview method was adopted to record responses related to pairwise comparison between criteria from 20 experts of related domains. The present study employed an enhanced fuzzy analytical hierarchy process to obtain relative weights of the planning criteria influencing park-and-ride location decisions. Subsequently, criteria levels and scores corresponding to each level of the identified criteria were determined. The candidate locations received scores based on the levels of the criteria corresponding to the locations. Finally, cumulative weighted scores were obtained for all selected candidate locations. The research findings indicated “Location of park-and-ride at interchange transit station” was the most important criterion, followed by “Transfer time from park-and-ride lot to transit station,” and “Access time to park-and-ride lot from trip origin.” The present study also identified the top 10 potential park-and-ride facility locations in Delhi. The study outcomes can be used as a prescription tool to assist the urban planners and policymakers in the rational location planning and implementation of park-and-ride facilities for sustainable urban mobility.
