Abstract
With the rapid development of cell phone–locating technologies, traffic data–extracting methods through cell phones start to play an important role in urban transportation planning and network analysis. This study investigates a cellular-based method to extract trip distribution data for urban transportation planning. In this method, the trip distribution table is generated as output with input of spatiotemporal information retrieved from cell phone subscribers. An experiment adopting this method has been implemented in China to test the feasibility of the method. The favorable outcomes obtained from the experiment exhibit high practicability and effectiveness of the proposed method.
