Abstract
Peloid therapy is an effective and reliable treatment method for various musculoskeletal disorders. This retrospective observational study evaluated the indications, efficacy, side effects, and patient satisfaction associated with peloid therapy at a tertiary rehabilitation hospital. From October 1, 2023, to October 1, 2024, 97 out of 128 patients who received peloid therapy for musculoskeletal diseases were contacted via telephone. Demographic data, diagnoses, and the number of peloid sessions were recorded. Pretreatment, posttreatment, and current pain scores were evaluated with a visual analog scale (VAS), and patient satisfaction after peloid treatment was evaluated using the Short Assessment of Patient Satisfaction (SAPS) form. Peloid therapy is primarily used to treat plantar fasciitis, followed by chronic neck, low back, and knee pain due to osteoarthritis. It is also found to be effective in treating lateral epicondylitis and carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition to the statistically significant improvement in VAS scores posttreatment (p < 0.001), patient satisfaction was also high—68% reported being very satisfied, and 18.5% were satisfied. In conclusion, peloid therapy appears to be a safe and effective conservative treatment for many musculoskeletal diseases and results in high patient satisfaction when performed in experienced centers under physician supervision.
