Abstract
Global research indicates that psychological support plays a crucial role in the success of in vitro fertilization (IVF), with up to 30% of success being attributed to timely and professional care. Today, many specialized IVF centers incorporate integrative procedures throughout all stages of the program. This approach represents a novel trend in medical science, combining conventional scientific treatments with integrative medicine techniques. Our study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of integrative protocols within IVF programs in terms of reducing stress, achieving homeostasis in couples facing infertility, enhancing the IVF program's efficiency, and improving pregnancy outcomes. At the Special Hospital in Belgrade, we implemented an integrative medical protocol, including acupuncture, for 18 couples undergoing IVF. From the outset, we monitored the patients’ health using noninvasive diagnostics provided by Anesa. The treatment protocol was customized based on thermoregulation and included natural therapies administered through the skin and orally, as well as diet, supplements, antistress treatments, psychological support, phytotherapy, and mind–body techniques. The impact of the protocol was assessed using stress and quality-of-life tests conducted at both the beginning and the end of the program. Infertile couples frequently experience significant emotional distress, including unhappiness, tension, fear, and anxiety, which can adversely affect the outcome of IVF. At the start of the program, all participating couples exhibited moderate to high levels of stress and lower quality of life on both individual and shared levels. The applied protocol resulted in a substantial reduction in stress, an improvement in quality of life, and greater preparedness for the challenges associated with IVF treatment. Additionally, it led to better responses to medication, improved blood flow, stabilization of the endocrine system, and enhanced psychological well-being in 16 of the 18 couples (88% of participants). Overall, this protocol increased the success rate of IVF outcomes by 16% and the pregnancy success rate by 22%. The integrative IVF protocol also strengthened the psychological stability of couples, fostered rational decision-making during the process, achieved homeostasis, and boosted both the immune and endocrine responses, thus improving the likelihood of success in IVF.
