Abstract
The development of portable battery-powered devices coupled to skin electrodes has allowed application of cutaneous electrical stimulation for different medical conditions. As clinical applications have become more specialized, different types of stimulation have developed, including trancutaneous electrical (nerve) stimulation (TENS or TNS), electroacupuncture (EA), neurcnuscular stimulation (NMS) and functional electrical stimulation (FES).
