Abstract
Sideways tilting of the pelvis, due to asymmetrical tensions in the postural muscles, is relatively common, the apparent leg lengthening or shortening can often be successfully borrected by acupuncture to the relevant areas of spasm in the buttock and is low back. The muscles most commonly involved are gluteus medius and minimus on the same side as the “longer leg”.
The recognition and treatment of this syndrome can be of wide ranging clinical significance. It may be an important contributory factor in painful problems of the lower limbs, low back, trunk, neck and head, because of secondary muscle tensions and postural reactions.
A simple technique of examining and treating the recumbent patient is outlined.
