Abstract
This presentation reviews the anatomical and pathological considerations involved in low back pain with sciatic radiation. The philosophy of the use of acupuncture for treatment of such conditions, as compared with the usual conservative medical treatment, is discussed.
Sciatica constitutes 36.5% of all back cases treated; in my study series 77% had improvement rated better to much better; 17% showed slight improvement and only 5% showed no improvement. Therefore, acupuncture should be considered a useful treatment modality.
