Abstract
Marianne Scott has been National Librarian of Canada since February 1984. She served as Director of Libraries, McGill University, from 1975 until 1984. Prior to that position she was Law Librarian at McGill University for almost 20 years. She was President of the Canadian Association of Law Libraries from 1963 until 1969; President of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries from 1978-1979, President of the Canadian Library Association from 1981-1982 and served on a number of committees of these associations. Ms Scott was Chair of CDNL (Conference of Directors of National Libraries) from 1988 until 1992, and served on the Standing Committee of the IFLA Section of National Libraries from 1993 until 1997. She has been Chair of the UNESCO Sub-Commission on Communication, Information and Informatics since 1995. Ms Scott was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1995, and received the IFLA Medal in 1996. She currently chairs the IFLA CLM (Copyright and other Legal Matters) Committee.
