Fihrist. Compiled by Al-Nadim, a native of Bughdad and by profession a bookseller, during 987-88 A.D.; edited by Flugel and published by J. Roediger and A. Muellor.Leipzig1871-72. This is the first bibliography to be compiled in Islamic world, and consists of books found in book market of Baghdad and other Islamic centres. Books have been arranged by subjects, followed by authors and their publications.

Kasf-al-Zunun. Prepared by Hadji Khalifa, the famous Ottoman polyister, during 1653-54 A.D.; edited by Flugel (Oriental Translation Fund) 1835-58. 7 vols. Like many other Oriental bibliographies this has been arranged according to title of the books.

Kasf-al-hudjub. Compiled by Maulana Syed Ejaz Husain Kantoori, and published by Asiatic Society in 1910 from Calcutta under the auspices of Muhammad Hidayat Husain. This consists of 3414 titles by authors of Shia sect alongwith short annotation.

al-Dharia ila Tasanif-al-Shia. The work was started by the late Agha Bozorg al-Tehran; vol. 1 was published in 1935 at Najaf (Iraq) and the successive 21 volumes were published both at Tehran and Najaf. After the death of the compiler the work was continued by his son — Monzavi Ahmed, who is himself a noted bibliographer of Iran. The work is incomplete. This is the most comprehensive bibliography of works relating to Shia sect.
