A study was carried out to assess the value of methoxyflurane/air in the relief of pain in labour. It was found that the agent is safe and produces minimal neonatal depression. It has average to good analgesic properties with a high degree of acceptance by the mothers. Easily portable and simple apparatus is available for its administration.
