Abstract
This article attempts to draw conclusions from a phenomenon that is generating deep alienation and resentment on the part of young Asians, but is also attracting systematic harassment and violence by racists. Particular, and critical, attention is focused on Asian cultural and religious practices. It argues that not only are much of these oppressive and antithetical to the notion of liberation but, fundamentally, they often lead to bigotry and divisiveness which, in consequence, also weaken the ability to resist racism. The left should, therefore, no longer ignore or tolerate oppression within oppressed communities.
