This article presents an open-loop modal analysis of a doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) connected to a single-machine infinite bus (SMIB) test system. The system includes several components: a wind turbine, wind generator, rotor-side converter (RSC), grid-side converter (GSC), and a line network. The dynamics of DFIG currents and voltages are modelled in a synchronously rotating reference frame under open-loop conditions. A small-signal stability (SSS) analysis identifies four distinct hidden system modes. Additionally, the influence of system parameter variations on these modes is investigated. Grid sensitivity analysis is conducted for varying grid strengths, such as weak, moderate, and strong. The system’s behaviour under grid disturbances and wind speed fluctuations is also studied through MATLAB simulations. Finally, the simulation results are validated through the OPAL-RT real-time simulator for practical applications.
