Abstract

Dear Dr Curran,
The recent report on “Satisfaction with cosmesis and priorities for cosmesis design” is very interesting. 1 Cairns et al. 1 concluded that “current cosmesis satisfaction levels of amputees in the United Kingdom are below what the medical device industry and clinical community would desire.” In fact, the cosmetic satisfaction is a hard-to-determine parameter since it is related to emotional desire. To design a good device must primarily focus on function support. The cosmetic concern should be the secondary concern. In addition, the cost for cosmetic design might add to the device, and it might be the barrier for the patients in developing countries to assess the good device.
