This article attempts to reveal the function of the pre-Yahwistic Passover. Rather then applying the usual methods of analysing the biblical text, the author applies the method of structural anthropology in an attempt to penetrate beyond the conspicuous plane of the stories. The aim of this study is to establish the symbolic function of mentioning Passover observances in the retellings of biblical events.
