Abstract
The bilingual book of Daniel results from the redacting together of two books of Daniel, one in Hebrew and one in Aramaic. Dan. 7.1-2a is a late addition to the book, and once this text is removed the distinct character of the two source books becomes clear. The bilingual book of Ezra had the role of model and legitimator. The problem of the bilingual ch. 2 is solved by postulating two versions of this story, one in each book. Given two versions of ch. 2, a chiastic structure for the Hebrew book may be demonstrated to complement a similar structure in the Aramaic book.
