It should be noted that the Children Act 1975 gives power to a single man to adopt. However, he is not allowed to foster a child since fostering is governed by the Boarding Out of Children Regulations of 1955. Part 1, Section 2, in particular states that only a man who is a relative (grandfather, uncle or elder brother) of the child is eligible.
