The aim of the study was to validate the Salford Objective Recognition Test (SORT) by examining its relationship with the Rivermead Behavioural Memory Test (RBMT). Fifty stroke patients admitted to a stroke rehabilitation unit were assessed within 2 weeks of admission on the SORT and the RBMT. Correlations between the RBMT screening score and the SORT were all statistically significant. Correlations between the RBMT profile score and SORT words were statistically significant but not those between the profile score and SORT faces. The SORT has acceptable validity as a measure of memory in stroke patients and could be used as a screening test to detect memory problems.
