Abstract
A survey of the factors affecting the arrangements of fieldwork education placement programmes for occupational therapy students in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland was conducted for the academic year 1993/94. The results indicate the different types of fieldwork education placement programme that educational institutions are expecting occupational therapy practitioners in the field to accommodate and the multitude of factors affecting the organisation of fieldwork education placements. Organisational factors appear to be the most frequent background to the collapse and delay of fieldwork education placements for students.
