This literature review examines the condition of Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) and its far-reaching effects upon the child, both developmentally and functionally. In particular, the level of functional independence that can be achieved by the child with JRA is discussed in relation to parental perceptions and the phenomenon of maternal overprotection.
