Abstract
This article reports on the results of a recent assessment of tapturners and taphead adaptors carried out at the Disability Equipment Assessment Centre in Bath and funded by the Department of Health. In addition to specific difficulties associated with particular products, there are major disadvantages to the use of tapturners in general. The study concludes that tapturners should only be used as an interim measure. Patients with rheumatological involvement of the upper limbs should use levertaps. A further study is in progress to assess levertaps.
