This article discusses the need for and importance of a self-help group in the treatment programme of patients with rheumatoid arthritis. It describes the aims, format and content of the group and analyses the results of two questionnaires. It is hoped that it will encourage workers elsewhere within the field of rheumatology to develop a similar group.
