Abstract
This study was carried out in order to examine the relationship between a patient's attitude towards his/her stroke and the effect that this would have upon progress in activities of daily living (ADL). Psychological, physiological and practical AOL tests were administered. A discriminant function analysis was applied to the data. The most effective discriminators were used to test the extent to which a patient could fee described as an achiever or a non-achiever in ADL, 6 months after onset, it was found that an ini tial ‘realistic’ attitude professed by the patient was related to success in ADL after 6 months.
