Abstract
Expert systems have their roots in the medical profession (MYCIN is probably the best known) with many areas of application. A number of systems have been built, mainly to assist in diagnostic procedures. Few expert systems have been built for use in the profession of occupational therapy. A prototype expert system has been built and is now operational. Lessons have been learned regarding: constructing the knowledge base; resource implications; deficiencies in the prototype; and the way ahead.
