This article describes how an assessment was designed for a survey of the long-stay patients at Park Prewett Hospital. It is used to identify the rehabilitation and long-term accommodation needs of each patient and the levels of staff and resources required to meet these needs. The assessments were done by two assessors who wrote this article and three others who took over and completed the final report (to be published in a future issue).
