Abstract
This article is based on a need felt by the authors to clarify and improve systems of assessing clients' housing requirements in relation to their disabilities. It was recognized that housing could be seen as a resource to meet the needs of disabled people. The article presents a coding system that both acts as an aid to assessment and enables housing stock to be coded in terms of its amenities. Such a system potentially provides an objective means of assessment as well as more effective allocation of houses.
