Abstract
This article describes a survey of a sample of 50 adaptations undertaken by a local authority social services department. The method whereby the adaptations were sampled and investigated is described. Aspects such as the reason for provision, how the client coped before, what the main effects were and what possible improvements were required are considered. The survey showed that in 45 of the 50 cases examined the adaptation was being used frequently and appropriately. In 19 cases, however, possible improvements were identified.
