Abstract
The recent discovery of a stable at Tell el-Retaba prompts a reconsideration of this relatively rare category of finds. To date, the only other archaeologically investigated examples from Ancient Egypt are the two stables from Amarna and one from Qantir, with limited additional iconographical sources. The real stables are generally similar to those depicted on walls, but certain differences raise questions as to the kinds of animals kept in them. This question is particularly apposite in the case of Tell el-Retaba.
