Abstract
The Egyptological Institute of Strasbourg (Université de Strasbourg) possesses a relief fragment (IES 2472 A) representing the slaughter of prisoners. Further information on the origin of this piece, which was part of an anonymous gift, is not available. The organisation of the captives group has parallels in scenes of the Late and Graeco-Roman periods. The sculptural style is original, and while the pattern is typically Egyptian, the rendering of the captives' faces is not. Some identical facial features occur in foreign sculpture (Persian and Meroitic) but no certain identification can be made. It is possible that the artist was not an Egyptian.
