Abstract
In March 2006, the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo started a preliminary survey at the site of el-Hosh, including recording and photography of the pharaonic rock inscriptions. The inscription presented here is believed to date to the end of the First Dynasty, and hence would be the oldest attestation of hieroglyphic writing in the area.
