Abstract
Discussion of certain changes to the funerary cult during the Early Middle Kingdom, specifically those related to the numbers and the categories of the funerary priests involved in the rites. This study is based on an important Eleventh Dynasty source, stela BM EA 1164, which presents the main elements of two contracts between the owner and two funerary priests, a ḥm-k3 and a ẖry-ḥb. Alongside the identification of the priestly title imy-ḫnt wr, the philological analysis of these contracts is developed in order to consider the sociological and historical background and in order to shed light on the roles of Thebes and Memphis during this period.
