Abstract
Explanation of an anecdote related by Diodorus about the birth of the Egyptian shrew-mouse from the mud. A forerunner of the same story is found in the Brooklyn Magical Papyrus. This legend seems to be linked with a pun on one of the Egyptian designations of ‘shrew-mouse’.
