An attempt has been made to replace a thick-walled pipe of large diameter (over 500 mm) with a thin-walled pipe of large diameter, reinforced with glass fibre mesh. It has been shown that, with single-layer reinforcement, it is possible to lower the weight of the pipes by 50% for pipes of up to 1000 mm diameter while retaining their hydraulic strength.
