By the interaction of 3-chloro(chloroalkoxy)-1,2-propanediols with 3-cyclohexene-1-carbaldehyde, unsaturated 2,4-disubstituted 1,3-dioxolanes were synthesised, and by their condensation with hexachlorocyclopentadiene, adducts were obtained that combined in their molecules a dioxolane ring with a hexachloro-substituted norbornene skeleton. A study was made of the effectiveness of the latter as plasticiser/ modifiers for epoxy composites based on bisphenol A epoxy resin ED-20.
