Abstract
It has been established that a polymer composite based on waste umbrella fabric (UFPC) has a dielectric loss tangent tg δ of 0.054. The electric strength (12.15 kV/mm) confirms the dielectric properties of the polymer composite. For a water-filled specimen, a small drop in electric strength to 10.09 kV/mm occurs, which enables the UFPC to be used under natural conditions as electrical insulation material, including cable grip material. The water absorption of the UFPC was investigated. It was established that the water absorption of the UFPC (4.25%) depends on the time of water absorption, correlates with the composition, and lies at the level of the water absorption of glass- and mineral-filled polyamides. The surface topography of the UFPC before and after water absorption is given.
