Effect of Chemical Modification of Poly(Butylene Terephthalate) on Elastic Properties

Abstract

It can be stated, on the basis of the investigations presented in this article, that chemical modification of the PBT chain as a result of introducing cheap and readily available modifying comonomers – PTMOG and DMI – with a view to improving the elastic and impact properties, achieved the intended results. Improvement of these characteristics while at the same time maintaining very good thermal and strength properties is obtained in the case of polymers 3, 7 and 8, i.e. PBT modified with DMI alone at 6 wt.%, with a system 6 wt.% DMI + 6 wt.% PTMOG or with PTMOG alone at 20 wt.%.

These polymers are best at meeting the requirements of customers, especially manufacturers of domestic appliances.
