Abstract
In October 1990, Taiwan changed its criminal code on amphetamines, making possession and use of such substances a punishable act. Strong government intervention against amphetamines-related offenses supported by an uncritical general public has created an increasing criminal population. This article focuses on how the newly enacted antiamphetamines law affects the extent and nature ofjuvenile delinquency in Taiwan. Data arefrom the Crime Statistics compiled by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. The study found that the volume of delinquency has increased since 1990, the average age of official delinquents has not changed, and the gender ratio in delinquency involvement has decreased.
