Abstract
Administrators in departments in the United States are adding stress training segments to their curricula for new recruits to the correctional services, in the hope that this will aid officers in doing their jobs effectively. The assessment of stress factors in corrections is therefore of considerable importance. This paper outlines several areas of difficulty in conducting research on officer stress and gives some guidelines for laying the groundwork for successful research.
