Certain offences are referred by the police to the procurator fiscal for prosecution in the sheriff court. These include offences committed by children whilst acting along with an adult, offences which may lead to a court ordering forfeiture of an adult or disqualification and, more generally, serious offences. It is felt by some that too many offences are in fact referred to the sheriff courts.
