Abstract
A practical CAD course is presented for engineering undergraduate courses, using engineering examples to demonstrate how modern CAD packages are used. The CAD course is split into formal lectures and workshop sessions, and can be divided into three stages, the first two as part of the syllabus in the first two years of a three/four year B.Eng. course, and the final stage as an optional final-year course. The syllabus suggested is suitable for inclusion in a modular course. The CAD course covers 2D drafting, 3D solid modelling as well as finite element analysis, which are considered most relevant to mechanical engineers.
