Abstract
A modular air conditioning unit was designed and constructed by five mechanical engineering students as their senior-year design project. The unit can be controlled manually or by a control computer. It will be used to demonstrate the major psychrometric processes, and the operation and principles of HVAC control systems in Thermodynamics and HVAC courses. The unit is fully instrumented to measure temperature, relative humidity and flow rates. Thus, mass and energy balances on various individual sections can be carried out.
