Abstract
The new strategy for the reform of European higher education expresses an important place for quality of teaching alongside the need to modernize structures and financial systems, as well as the research. In June 2013, the European Union high-level group presented a document describing the state of higher education emphasizing strengths and weaknesses. There were recommendations to improve the situation, addressed not only to both the teachers and the university authorities but also to public authorities responsible for higher education. On the basis of these recommendations, as well as many years of author’s experience, the paper discusses the various aspects of academic teaching in technical universities.
