Abstract
This report was prepared by the Committee for Rational Development which was formed during the aftermath of the July 1983 violence. Its members include Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, and Burghers of dif ferent political persuasions. The objective of the Committee is to assist in the finding of solutions to contemporary social problems of Sri Lanka on the basis of strengthening democratic institutions and the rational process in society.
